Startup Stir Promotional Video and Channel

"Startup Stir is a place for professionals from all industries to exchange knowledge and network with likeminded others."

I've had the good fortune of working with Aaron Radez of Startup Stir over the past few months, and recently cut this promo video (along with some panel discussion videos) for the Startup Stir Youtube Channel.

Calvinball Band Photo

I think I'm starting to get this flash photography thing. Shot this on my Canon 650d, using a Newwer TT560 external flash.

Fisheye Cabin Fever Videos

I get a little antsy sometimes and wander around the neighborhood with my camera. Or just wander around my apartment with my iPhone looking for anything to record with my fisheye adapters. I get a kick out of the super wide field of view, and the distortion effects of the lens.
The Coffee video was recorded on an iPhone 4s with a KingMas fisheye adapter, using the Timelapse feature built into the IOS camera app.  Is it a "true" timelapse? Meaning, is it a sequence of still photos taken at intervals and then stitched together? Or is it some kind of encoding that only records every 24 video frames? I can't really say, but I do know that the file output from the phone is not a 1920X1080 video, but a much smaller and odd resolution file. Thus, the poor image quality after having transcoded it for Youtube.
The other video, Out4ASpin, was the doings and goings on of a short walk on a cold afternoon to test some stabilizer gear for my Canon t4i plus wide angle adapter. I was also recording the footage at 60fps, in order to later slow the footage to 30fps. The result is a dreamy spin around my backyard. There is something magical about watching the footage you've shot in slow motion. The music is a little guitar doodling (recorded on my trusty Tascam DR-70d), also temporally distorted.

Boston Open Screen

Last winter, I started attending Boston Open Screen at Coolidge Corner Theatre, and got hooked. I like getting engaged with a community and a scene, and so I endeavored to make this quick spotlight video. I'm also a member at Brookline Interactive Group, and took advantage of the access to their JVC GY-HM150U. The footage in the video below was shot on 3 cameras:
  1. My trusty iPhone 4s for the hi-speed 1st person shots
  2. A Canon t4i equipped with a 50mm f1.8 lens for the best possible footage in a dark movie theater
  3. The JVC GY-HM150U as a B-Cam on sticks with zoom, and decent light sensitivity

Artist Profile: Iansanity

Ian is one hell of an artist. A visualmancer, if you will. I met him during an employment stint at Brighton's Cafenation. He managed the kitchen there, as well as the art displays in the cafe. Always friendly, always warm, he was great to work with and great to know. Luckily, he lives in the neighborhood, so it wasn't hard to get a hold of him when I had the inspiration to shoot a video for him. I'd paid attention to his artwork through Facebook, and wanted to spotlight his work and practice my craft.
I interviewed him in his studio, and shot some b-roll while he painted there and at a live paint event in Allston, Ma. The primary camera was my Canon t4i, backed up by the versatile iPhone 4s camera. The audio was captured on Ian's iPhone 6. Lighting consisted of one softbox kit as key, and for fill, a work lamp that Ian had in his studio.
